For Men’s Pre Fall-Winter 2016 collection, the Vuitton man has travelled across Europe to Paris, much like many artists, writers and other creatives did in the ‘60s and ‘70s. There is the feel of a luxury traveler, who may have sailed down the Danube and skied in the Alps before stopping in Paris to go to see Nureyev at the ballet.

The theme is divided into two primary groups, with a part of the first group being given over to the trans-seasonal collection, which is delivered in early summer.

This group takes its colour accents directly from the Spring Summer show, as well as some of the graphical elements; the Lahu stripes of the show are here transformed into Eastern European checks. The silhouette here is relaxed and casual, with easy to layer pieces.

The main part of the first group focuses on sophisticated wardrobe pieces with a slight military influence. We start to see the European inspiration in terms of colour, which is rich but not yet too wintry. We also introduce a new camouflage as our primary motif, which is printed on outerwear and knitwear, and quilted on lightweight layering pieces.

The second group is rich and warm, with a focus of the linear graphics of the Karakoram and Jeevana blankets from our archive. The focus here is on smart leisure wear, with functional cashmere and double-faced fabric and rich, jacquard knitwear creating a real feel of Parisian luxury.

This season a new camouflage becomes the main transversal print, appearing across ready-to-wear and maroquinerie, where it is printed over the damier graphite for a refreshing take on classic Vuitton styles.

The other main graphic elements are the two archival blanket designs. They are woven into double-faced cashmere coatings and jacquard shirting and knit, and even patchwork into leather.

The tailored offer has expanded within the precollection this season, with a wide range of garments, from softly constructed jersey pieces to a luxurious bonded water-repellant peacoat and classic, slim-fitting coats. There is also a new, more relaxed fit in the tailoring collection, along with a range of new shirt collar options.

Leather is an important part of the precollection, and here we have used a variety of different leathers, from soft nubuck to supple deerskin and shearling, to make classic and timeless styles. We have focused on lightweight, modern construction like bonding and single-layer shearling to keep the pieces as light and flexible in their use as possible.
